Bollywood seems to have grasped the concept of brother and sister very closely. They have made many such great movies depicting this pure bond of love and caring nature between brothers and sisters. They have tried to simulate the bond that siblings share in real life.

Here are our picks from Bollywood depicting brother and sister relation, This Raksha Bandhan.

The film was one of the first feature flicks to bring sensitive topics like homosexuality and HIV in Indian cinema. Nikhil (Sanjay Suri) is disowned by his family and arrested when he is diagnosed with HIV. His sister, played by Juhi Chawla stands by him and get him released despite threats from their community. Juhi Chawla stands against the world for her brother and her character should be an inspiration for siblings of all generations.

The Zoya Akhtar film with an ensemble cast had a number of stories running in parallel but the one we are interested in is the one between Ranveer Singh’s and Priyanka Chopra’s character. The story is about a dysfunctional family where the two siblings confide in each other no matter how bad their secret maybe. Their relationship is something all brothers and sisters from our generation can relate to. Like Ranveer got Priyanka’s back, helping her out by showing the right path and participating in important decisions of her life

Though it was a love story, the role of the overprotective brother and his love for his younger sister played a major role in the film. Most of the brothers, especially the elder ones, tend to be protective of their sisters and this was portrayed quite well by Arbaaz Khan’s character in the film.

Sarbjit

Based on the life of Sarabjit Singh, a farmer who was wrongfully convicted in Pakistan and died after a fatal assault inside the jail, the movie Sarbjit focuses on his sister Dalbir Kaur’s fight against the system to prove his innocence. Dalbir fought against the law and many middlemen in between. The fierceness of a sister’s love for her brother and crossing limits for her blood is the best thing in this movie.

Jaane Tu Ya Jaane Na

Another film in this list whose central interests doesn’t revolve around a brother-sister relationship. But, the realistic portrayal of sibling bickering, the sweet and bitter love between Genelia D’Souza’s character and her brother won everyone’s hearts. Although they mostly fought and troubled each other but at the end, her brother actually cared for her and loved her from deep down the heart.
